In this “Draw with Me” tutorial with Tom Froese, we explored a simple but powerful technique — creating a grid and then fitting an illustration scene neatly within it. The challenge was to design while staying within the boundaries of the grid, which taught me how structure can spark creativity rather than limit it.
The process was really rewarding, as I could experiment with composition and balance while keeping the design clean and cohesive. You can see the full journey in the process video and accompanying image, where I worked step-by-step to build the scene within the grid.
This exercise really helped me understand how grids can be a playful tool for illustration, making the work both organised and visually appealing.
